500 Ways You Disappoint Me

A new sculpture. Also this story:

As I approach the dilapidated building along the factory lined street in long island city a feeling of apprehension waves over me. I know what I have to do, but I'm not sure how I'm going to do it. Looking over the pressman to see the proof, the colors are completely off and my heart sinks. Not in that way where you found out something you didn't want to know, but in the way when you roll the dice and you get snake eyes. I have already given them my credit card. I feel like a fool. How can you trust someone else's eyes but your own. They point to the paper stock and the inaccuracies of the press and it's antiquated system. In my mind I can't help but think that there is something amazing about paper larger than a person, tumbling through huge machines that could kill you if they fell over. I talk to them in a calm voice while fumbling with an elastic band I had in my backpack. 'I'm an artist' I tell them, 'How am I going to pay for this mistake?'. They shrug and go back to their computers. I look around and place the ruined sheets of paper on my small black dolly. As I walk from the parking lot I mutter curses under my breath.

Approximately 22.5 x 30 x 4 in.

Middle of the Road

Looking for submissions for a new project entitled Middle of the Road

A collaborative poster project by Robin Cameron and Denise Schatz

It could be as simple as a midway point between two extremes, like the center point of a circle. Maybe an intervening part of a sequence, say from a musical work by John Cage. A stage of development in a child, or a geological division of time like the lines in a sedimentary rock. From a young age we are told to never cross a street without looking both ways. Walking though an intersection in New York City can be a task in self preservation, but when you reach the middle of the road there is one moment to really see the city unfolding. Historically used to represent music or political parties, that tend to sit on the fence, we have decided to reclaim this term. Our definition is broad, similar to the circumstance of an eclipse, making a split second decision or seeing the possibility in something in between. Like a liminal state: ambiguity, openness, and indeterminacy rule the middle of the road.

Spitting into the Wind

Spitting into the Wind is a offset lithography poster that investigates the effect of Duchamp's infamous Fountain. Exploring the imagery created by Bruce Nauman that bears the same name, as well as song lyrics from Jim Croce's You Don't Mess Around with Jim the poster is a contemporary mix of references. The image a grotesque yet beautiful pause in space and time reflects on the notion of going with your own instincts even if it hits you in the face.
